However, when I boot from the USB on the machine where I want to install Manjaro, I can only go as far as the simple boot-loaded menu screen. I tried the same flash on my friends laptop and it booted well. That uefi bootloader simply requires uefi yo be launched. But your partition table and partitioning scheme might not be prepared for uefi.
Anyway, legacy boot should be possible. Have you seen any green at any point? Is it firmwares boot menu or the manjaro bootloader? Can you give us a picture? Anyway, when booting you should probably all uefis are so different be able to get this menu where you can choose what device to boot from. You usually get there by pressing a key during early boot.

Why my bootable usb device doesn't show in BIOS >Boot Device Priority< ?
Okay, that is definately is the uefi boot screen, so at least you have support for uefi on your motherboard. Anyway, the other picture shows that it is a borked iso. Redownload, check ckecksums and burn it again.
You are getting to the bootloader of the disc image. It has two different bootloaders: systemd-boot for uefi and syslinux for legacy boot. You want to use the syslinux one to boot the iso, because then you will install in legacy mode.
Your motherboard has support for uefi, but you would have to repartition your whole harddrive to do a uefi install, because your disk is partitioned for legacy boot amd eberything else is legacy booting you have no esp, the uefi booting partition. So you need to start it with syslinux. Thats why you need to look for other options to boot the same usb. Syslinux has green colors and fancy graphics.
This is now getting a little crazy. And guess what, all went flawless. Then I happily rebooted the computer with the new SSD as primary boot option. Still lucky, I saw the grub menu with all the options - including my new Manjaro install.I know that there are a lot of posts like this on the forum, but I have searched and found only one case slightly similar to this - it did not help. And that is the absolute first thing that appears on the display after selecting the boot device from the BIOS menus.
Tried on USB 3. The USB stick works perfectly fine on another first-gen i7 Mobile laptop - using it right now. What can I do to understand what is going wrong? Thank you for the help. The computer never reaches the boot loader, the BIOS lets me select only whole drives. Hope this explains the situation. Hope someone can help me figure this out, thank you. My computer takes about 8 minutes to actually load the menu off a flash drive.
I think I let it sit for a bit over 15min. Did you try rewriting the usb? Likely a setting in the Bios of the laptop of question, or that laptop is finnicky about the brand of USB drives it eats. Every time the USB stick booted just fine on the other laptop. Assuming that you have been trying with I recognize these lines from other posts, so I am going to search the forum again and see what other people have tried.
Hi, thank you for your reply. Sorry if I am a bit confused, do you want me to provide the output of that command from any Linux or should I first try Manjaro with a different DE? I loaded a slightly modified version of the BIOS that adds a few advanced options I use this to turn off power to the GPU, so it consumes less and heats up less. This is guaranteed not to cause such a problem, I have used the laptop with this for everything, since forever.Sig p365 12 round magazine academy
It only takes a minute to sign up. I ran pacman -Syu yesterday and seeing quite a few updates, walked away from the computer while it was doing its thing. When I came back the lock screen had come up, and I was surprised to find that I couldn't login despite entering my password. I should have probably tried switching to TTY but I didn't think of it. I assumed that the problem would be resolved on a reboot and pressed the reset button.
Now Manjaro refuses to boot. I am guessing the problem is bad video drivers. I think if I could somehow boot into Manjaro without launching my DE, Cinnamon, I could then tty to rerun the updates maybe they had failed at some critical pointlook at the logs or just tinker with the video drivers until I can get it to work again. I have seen some recommendations online that suggest editing the GRUB menu and adding various parameters to the linux command, but my GRUB config file is apparently very complicated, and looks nothing like the examples I saw.
I'd paste it here, but I'm not sure how to get it out of my computer. Then I found the line starting with linux and ending with splash and added a 3 to the end. Then I pressed F10 to boot. I ran pacman -Syuhoping that if I let it update itself successfully the problem would magically go away. It appears that the python package dateutils was installed, and was causing pacman's update to fail. It seems that pacman tries to do big updates in a single transaction, to avoid partial update state due to interruptions, but despite this I think my system got borked by the update attempt.
I uninstalled dateutils with pip uninstall python-dateutils. Then I ran pacman -Syu again and it completed successfully. I ran pacman -Syyu just to make sure that the update was good, and it reported no out-of-date packages. I then also ran pacaur -Syu in the same fashion. After this I checked dateutils with pip list and it appears to have been installed back by the pacman update.

It is one of the most popular Linux distributions around, and one of the more highly regarded ones. This is a convenient way of testing out a Linux distribution before installing it. If you liked the Linux distribution, you can use the same live USB to install the Linux distribution. Download the ISO image of Manjaro from the download page. There are three main versions available based on the desktop environments. Choose whichever you prefer.
I chose KDE. There are plenty of such applications available for free. Manjaro recommends ImageWriter or Rufus. In my experience, ImageWriter now renamed to Win32DiskImager has always worked flawlessly and its very simple to use.
Note the drive letter in the Device section. Click on the little blue folder icon to select your downloaded ISO file. However it can handle. To select an ISO file, click the bottom right section as shown in the image below and select the underlined option. Now, navigate to the directory where you downloaded the ISO and select the file.
Verify the drive letter once again to be sure.
The rest of the data is written to a partition on the USB drive that cannot be read by Windows. I recommend you use Etcher to create live USBs. After downloading the package, extract it to get a. AppImage file. Before you use the AppImage filechange the permissions to make it executable. After selecting your drive, click continue.
You will get a password prompt so that Etcher can access the drive. Enter your password to continue. Any questions or suggestions are always welcome! I'm passionate and interested in open source software and Linux. Photography and Coding are my hobbies. I also quite enjoy a good cup o' coffee.

Hi there. However, this afternoon I managed to get back to this and finally get it to work.Xmldocument
This version booted fine and everything worked from the live USB. Updating all the packages was however troublesome, because there were 2yrs worth of updates that caused all sorts of conflicts. But with a few quick searches it was quite manageable. The first time that I ran sudo pacman -Syyu the program asked to replace a bunch of packages or rather relocate them : saying yes to all brought to an error for conflicting dependencies, so you will have to avoid replacing the two packages that cause the conflicts, attica and qca beware these are not the entire names, I am writing from memory.
Afterwards you will have to remove the deprecated package that still depends on the above mentioned packages: sudo pacman -Rncs kdelibs.
Then, if I recall correctly, you should be able to update the remaining packages its possible that I am forgetting something, but if I found the solution by searching the web then you can too. You might notice that after rebooting the browser will fail to launch: I have just replaced the non-working firefox-kde with firefox.Tsmc internship
The description of the old package said that it better integrated with KDE. There is also an add-on from KDE that claims to do just thisbut is it the same thing? As time goes on and more updates get pushed, the list of conflicts is potentially going to grow, but I hope to have helped someone here.
Thank you for the confirmation, I am going to try firefox-kde-opensuse too. I have discovered something interesting while cloning to my SSD.
The same disk works just fine via SATA. This confirms what I had hypothesized earlier. There was another small difference: after cloning to the SSD, I have tried to boot that from the SATA-USB adapter, and instead this went straight to a completely blank screen, not even a command line blinking underscore.
